SAISON INFORMATION SYSTEMS CO., LTD. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO: Makoto Hayama; hereinafter referred to as "Saison Information Systems") and Persefoni Japan LLC (Head office: Tempe, Arizona, USA; CEO: Kentaro Kawamori; hereinafter referred to as "Persefoni") have conducted a verification test of automating CO2 emissions calculation work to accelerate decarbonization management, and announced that by linking "Persefoni" with "HULFT Square," a Japanese iPaaS (cloud-based data integration platform), it is possible to reduce workload by approximately 90%.
Persefoni is a global leader in carbon accounting platforms (CMAP) and a certified partner of the Carbon Accounting Partnership for Finance (PCAF), offering carbon accounting at the same high accuracy as financial reporting systems. By combining Persefoni with HULFT Square, HULFT Series iPaaS with an overwhelming track record in the financial industry, you can link not only CO2 emissions data but also all corporate activity data. It also enables you to create reports that include not only the E (environment) aspect of ESG reports, but also S (society) and G (corporate governance) aspects, including the status of domestic and international group companies and business partners.
Verification test of HULFT Square and Persephony integration: Workload reduced by approximately 90%
In this integration test, we verified whether activity data could be integrated into Persephony via API using HULFT Square, which is particularly time-consuming, to collect data from multiple locations and transcribe it into Persephony templates.
Calculating CO2 emissions normally requires not only manual data collection, acquisition, organization, and transcription, but also the creation of tables, visualization, and analysis.
The work of calculating CO2 emissions in-house can be broadly divided into four steps (collection of economic activity data, processing of economic activity data, tabulation, and visualization/analysis). By introducing Persephony, it is expected that the workload will be reduced by approximately 50%.
The results of this test showed that after implementing Persephony, particularly burdensome tasks such as collecting data from multiple sales offices/group companies, obtaining the latest templates from Persephony, transcribing each input, and uploading files could be automated by using HULFT Square in conjunction with the system, reducing the workload by approximately 90%.
Validation tests performed:
- HULFT Square converts Excel files (activity data) into CSV "integrated format"
- HULFT Square creates registration data to enable API execution for Persephony in the integrated format
- HULFT Square executes API to automatically register data in Persephony
The need for action to calculate and visualize CO2 emissions and reduce them
The movement toward "carbon neutrality by 2050" is accelerating globally. The "Sustainability Disclosure Standards" published by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) on June 23, 2023, include a requirement that listed companies disclose information, including "Scope 3" information, covering their entire supply chain, including business partners. This effectively makes it a global standard, making it easier for overseas investors to compare corporate initiatives, forcing companies to take action, such as understanding the situation of their business partners. However, many companies still rely on manual processes, from collecting and organizing information to transcribing documents, and are therefore unable to calculate CO2 emissions, let alone begin to visualize and reduce them, which is an issue.
Future developments
The collaboration between the two services will promote data utilization by linking with the systems and SaaS of various companies and organizations as a corporate activity data integration platform.
