Saison Technology Co., Ltd., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO: Makoto Hayama; hereinafter referred to as "Saison Technology") has implemented an initiative that allows new employees who join the company in April 2024 and are assigned to the Sales Headquarters to choose their own department or section to be assigned to, ensuring that their preferences are reflected 100%.
In recent years, many companies have been facing a decline in their workforce due to labor shortages. In particular, the early turnover of new graduates poses significant disadvantages for both new employees and companies. One of the factors behind this is the "reality shock" experienced before and after joining the company. "Reality shock" refers to the shock experienced by new employees when they discover the gap between the ideals they had before joining the company and the reality they face after joining.
This initiative involved three months of basic training starting in April, followed by just one month in July to visit all departments in the Sales Division and gain concrete experience of the work of each department. Although it was a high-stakes initiative requiring preparation in a short space of time on the part of the hosting side, it was a fulfilling period for both the new employees and the hosting side.
This initiative helped to reduce the gap between the image new employees had of what it would be like to work there and the reality, and encouraged the departments that accepted them to work harder to communicate the appeal of their departments. As a result, a synergistic effect was created in which everyone involved took the initiative in their assignments.
New employees commented that the company culture respects their opinions, and the departments that received them felt a positive response to their daily activities, saying that they were able to communicate the value of working as one team that their department values. On the other hand, the departments that were not nominated expressed their enthusiasm for the next year, saying that they must further refine their department's operations.
Given the success of this first-ever assignment of new employees based on their preferences, Saison Technology is considering expanding the scope of the program to include more departments and continuing it as a company-wide initiative.
