HULFT Launches Early Trial Version of "Zstandard," a New Compression Method that Achieves Eight Times the Transfer Performance of FTP*

To media representatives:

Saison Technology Co., Ltd.

Saison Technology Co., Ltd., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO: Makoto Hayama; hereinafter "Saison Technology") will begin offering a free trial version of the "HULFT" compression method that will be added to the new version of its managed file transfer (MFT**) service, "HULFT 10," on Monday, July 1, 2024. Existing HULFT customers will be able to experience the improved transfer speeds early and use the latest information provided in advance to help them formulate future version upgrade plans.

Improved transfer performance with the introduction of the "Zstandard" compression algorithm

Zstandard is a lossless compression algorithm developed by Yann Collet of Facebook and released as open source software under the BSD license in August 2016. It is characterized by its superior decompression speed and efficiency compared to the "Deflate" compression algorithm used in Zip, gzip, zlib, etc.

The current version, "HULFT8," supports Deflate, but the new version, "HULFT 10," will support Zstandard in addition to Deflate. When transferring data between HULFT 10 instances, transfer performance is approximately 8 times faster than with FTP and approximately 1.4 times faster than with HULFT8 (reference values based on in-house measurements).

As communications infrastructure becomes more sophisticated and digital services become more widespread and diverse, the amount of data distributed by companies is increasing dramatically. By compressing data with Zstandard, processing time for data integration between systems is shortened, contributing to business efficiency.

How to use the early trial version

The Zstandard early trial version, which will be available soon, was developed to allow existing HULFT customers to experience the improved transfer speeds as soon as possible, and will be available in two versions: Windows and Linux. The Zstandard compression method has been added to the current version, HULFT8, but all other functions and screens are the same as HULFT8.

This trial version can be downloaded free of charge from "my HULFT," a portal site for existing customers. The download file includes materials on the new features and lineup information of HULFT 10, which will be released in the future. If you have any questions while using the product, you can contact technical support just as you would for Product version.

Future developments

"HULFT 10" was developed with hybrid environments in mind, and sales of "HULFT 10 for Container Services" began in February 2024 as the first release. As the second release, sales of products compatible with server operating systems such as "HULFT 10 for Linux" and "HULFT 10 for Windows" are planned to begin in the second half of 2024, and the Zstandard compression method will be introduced in these products.
