Saison Technology Co., Ltd. has published a case study detailing the background and reasons for selecting "HULFT Square" by Kintetsu Department Stores Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Kintetsu Department Stores) for the purpose of data integration.

Kintetsu Department Store internalized data integration by using "HULFT Square" to data integration its on-premise mission-critical system, core system with the newly introduced SaaS, "TOKIUM Invoice." This reduced the development period from several months to just a few weeks and also achieved cost savings of approximately 10 million yen.

background

Kintetsu Department Store Co., Ltd., as a core company of the Kintetsu Group, is responsible for the retail business and operates stores in Osaka, Nara, Wakayama, Shiga, and Mie prefectures. In recent years, the company has set forth its vision of becoming a "platform provider that enriches people's lives" (Medium-Term Management Plan 2021-2024) and a "department store that provides new value" (Medium-Term Management Plan 2025-2028), and is pushing forward with transformation.

As we restructured our business portfolio, including expanding our franchise business and entering the agricultural sector, we were working on improving our IT infrastructure, primarily by migrating various systems to the cloud. To respond to business diversification and changes in our revenue structure, our IT infrastructure needed to be more flexible and agile than ever before. We were focusing on migrating various internal systems to the cloud and creating an environment where server construction and other processes that previously took several months could be carried out more quickly in-house.

Reasons for adopting "HULFT Square" and the effects of its implementation

Kintetsu Department Store encountered several challenges when replacing its existing on-premise expense reimbursement system with a new SaaS system, with the aim of streamlining and eliminating paper in its expense reimbursement process.

The existing mission-critical system, core system was built on-premises, and data integration with the on-premises expense reimbursement system was handled using file transfer and batch processing with file transfer middleware "HULFT". On the other hand, "TOKIUM Invoice," a SaaS that was newly introduced at the selection of the accounting department, required APIs for data integration. In integrating systems with different connection methods presented many challenges, such as building API servers and designing authentication and security.

Our prior experience and track record with file transfer using "HULFT," our use of "AWS PrivateLink" to connect our mission-critical system, core system 's AWS environment with "HULFT Square" to ensure a secure communication path without exposing the AWS environment to the outside, and our successful PoC (Proof of Concept) connecting mission-critical system, core system with "TOKIUM Invoice" using "HULFT Square" that allowed us to quickly move towards full operation were the deciding factors in our selection and decision to implement "HULFT Square."

Furthermore, the following points are cited as benefits of introducing "HULFT Square":

  • A small team completed everything from script creation to implementation, achieving secure data integration.
  • This eliminated the need for new development of data integration platform, shortening the development period from several months to several weeks and reducing costs by approximately 10 million yen.
  • We can quickly respond to business changes and needs and establish an environment that enables in-house data integration
