「EDI」

We will explain the meaning of EDI (Educational Data Interchange).

What is EDI?

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is an abbreviation for Electronic Data Interchange. It refers to the electronic exchange of documents such as purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices between companies over dedicated lines or the Internet.

In traditional business-to-business transactions, documents were mainly exchanged via email, fax, and mail. In contrast, EDI exchanges documents electronically, which allows the sender to reduce the time and cost required to create and send and receive documents, and prevents input errors. In addition, the recipient can import document data directly into their internal systems, which has the advantage of improving the efficiency and accuracy of data processing.

EDI transactions between companies require standardization of communication protocols for data exchange and document formats. In addition to individual EDIs conducted only between specific companies, there are also standard EDIs that allow transactions between any companies in the same industry, and standardization within each industry is currently underway.
