Marketplace

Explain what marketplace means.

What is a Marketplace?

A marketplace, also known as an e-marketplace, is an online trading market for buying and selling goods. Multiple companies and individuals can freely participate, acting as sellers and buyers, and listing and purchasing goods.

B2B marketplaces are used as online platforms where multiple companies can offer their products and services to other companies. A distinctive feature of these platforms is that they allow all processes, from quotes to orders, payments, delivery management, and inventory management, to be completed online.

BtoC marketplaces are those where companies transact directly with individual consumers, and representative examples include Amazon, Rakuten Ichiba, Yahoo! Shopping, and ZOZOTOWN. Flea market services such as Mercari are also commonly used as CtoC marketplaces.
