What is BCP?

BCP stands for Business Continuity Plan. It is a plan (document) that outlines the policies, systems, and procedures for continuing important business operations in the event of a crisis such as a natural disaster, major fire, infectious disease outbreak, terrorist attack, or supply chain disruption. The main purpose of a BCP is to ensure that important business operations are not interrupted, and if they are interrupted, to restore them as quickly as possible.

There is also the term BCM (Business Continuity Management), which refers to the overall management of business continuity. BCM refers to management activities carried out during normal times. It includes a variety of proactive measures, such as formulating, maintaining, and updating a BCP, securing budgets and resources for business continuity, providing education and training, and conducting inspections and continuous improvements.
