What is the 2025 Cliff?
The 2025 Cliff is a problem that is expected to cause economic losses of up to 12 trillion yen per year from 2025 onwards. Although many business leaders understand the need for DX (digital transformation), there are a mountain of issues that must be resolved in order to make it a reality, and it is said that this problem will arise if these issues cannot be overcome. This was pointed out in the "DX Report - Overcoming the IT System '2025 Cliff' and Full-Scale Deployment of DX" published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in September 2018.
There are several factors contributing to this problem. First, existing mission-critical system, core system are aging, complex, and have become black boxes. Second, these legacy systems are consuming a lot of money and human resources, hindering the development of new digital technologies. On top of that, the IT human resource shortage is expected to grow to approximately 430,000 by 2025.
What to do about the "2025 Cliff"
So, should we just replace our outdated IT systems with new ones? Unfortunately, migrating to a new system all at once is known to be prone to failure.
Linking old and new systems with "HULFT"
In reality, it is necessary to "make the old and new systems coexist well. For this purpose, the file integration middleware "HULFT", which can be widely used in old systems such as mainframes and is compatible with new IT environments, can play an active role.
