「ERP」

Explain the meaning of ERP.

What is ERP?

ERP is an abbreviation for Enterprise Resource Planning. Originally, the term referred to plans and methods for integrated management and effective utilization of human resources and other resources that are the basis of corporate management. Nowadays, it generally refers to a system that centrally manages various business processes that are the basis of corporate management.

As a system, ERP can be seen as an "integrated mission-critical business systems" that integrates a company's core operations, such as accounting, finance, production, purchasing, inventory, and human resources, and centrally manages all information.

The world's first ERP product is said to be "R/1," released in 1973 by SAP, headquartered in Germany. ERP then attracted attention in Japan in the 1990s, but due to high prices and differences in business practices, only a few companies were able to successfully adopt it. However, the situation changed with the emergence of domestically produced ERP systems in the 2000s, and cloud ERP has now become mainstream, with an increasing number of companies adopting it.
