We will explain the meaning of MaaS.

What is MaaS?

MaaS stands for Mobility as a Service, a term referring to next-generation transportation services that utilize ICT to integrate multiple modes of transportation. Finland is already using Level 3 MaaS, a stage in which multiple transportation services are provided in an integrated manner. In Japan, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is working to popularize it as the Japanese version of MaaS.

Specifically, the first step will be to build a platform that allows users to use trains, buses, taxis, cruise ships, and passenger planes as a single service. Using the platform, users will be able to use a smartphone app or other means to search for the optimal route that combines multiple modes of transportation, and make reservations and payments all in one place. In the future, it is expected that AI-based on-demand transportation, green slow mobility, ultra-compact mobility, and self-driving cars will also be added to the transportation options. It is also anticipated that the platform will be integrated with other travel purposes, such as tourism, logistics, medical care, welfare, and retail.
