What is batch processing?

Batch processing is a method of collecting a certain amount of data or a certain period of time and automatically processing multiple processes all at once. The word "batch" comes from the English word "batch," which means "a bunch" or "a group" in Japanese.

For example, batch processing is often used to automatically process large amounts of data at regular intervals, such as summarizing monthly sales and marketing data or calculating employee payroll. The timing of batch processing can vary depending on the need, such as once a day, once a week, or once a month. By performing batch processing during times when there are fewer system users, processing can be done efficiently without putting a strain on the system.

In contrast to batch processing, real-time processing is processing input data or requests immediately.
