What is cloud migration?

Cloud migration involves migrating applications and data that have previously been used on-premises using in-house servers to a cloud environment.

The destination cloud environment can be a private cloud environment built in-house, or a public cloud environment built by a cloud provider and shared by multiple users via the internet. Cloud migration applies to cases such as converting applications that were previously installed on in-house servers or PCs and used for business purposes to cloud tools (SaaS), changing development platforms to cloud services (PaaS), and migrating internal infrastructure such as servers and networks to the cloud (IaaS).

Migrating to the cloud offers benefits such as cost reduction, reduced operational burden, scalability, and BCP (business continuity planning) measures.
