What is FTP?

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a communication standard used to transfer files over a network. Using FTP, you can exchange files between a server and a client (the user's PC).

FTP is used to upload files to an FTP server and download them from another PC, as well as when publishing or updating a website. For example, you can add a new web page by transferring HTML files or image files to an FTP server using software called an FTP client. You can also update a published web page by uploading a partially modified version of an existing file and overwriting the file on the FTP server.

However, FTP has the disadvantage in terms of security in that the communication path is not encrypted. For this reason, the current mainstream methods are FTPS, which encrypts data sent and received via FTP using SSL or TLS, and SFTP, which transfers files using a communication path encrypted by SSH.
