What is a Data Mart?

A data mart is a database in which the necessary parts of the large amount of data accumulated by a company are extracted according to the department using the data or specific purpose, and then processed and stored in a format that is easy to analyze.

A large-scale database that centrally manages large amounts of data collected from multiple information systems used within a company and uses it for analysis and decision-making is called a data warehouse (DWH).

Because data marts are small-scale databases customized for specific purposes, they have the advantage of being able to analyze specific information more efficiently than data analysis using a data warehouse. However, care must be taken as creating multiple data marts can increase maintenance costs and lead to data duplication and a decline in quality.
